A little Don Juan

Yes - two cards in one day :-)  So this one is using the Don Juan cartridge, and again another male card.

The card base was cut as a 5" (width) by 7" card (card stock cut 10" by 7" and folded).

The first two layers were cut at 4 3/4" (width) by 6 3/4", and 4 1/4" by 6 1/4".

The two tags were cut at 4" by 3" and 3 3/4" by 2 3/4".

Sentiment was welded in CCR (using the font feature) measuring 3" (wide) by 1 3/4".

The swirl was cut at 1 1/2".

The Cuttlebug was used to emboss the accent under the sentiment, I used the folder Devine Swirls and also distress inked the top.

Pop dots were used to add dimension.

Thanks for stopping by.

A little Cricut Craft Room Basics

Todays instalment is using the free Cricut Craft Room Basics images.

I had a request to do some male cards, I always find these the most difficult as you can't really add any frills :-)

The card base was cut as a 7" (width) by 5" card (card stock cut 10" by 7" and folded).

The first two layers were cut at 6 3/4" by 4 3/4" and 6 1/4" by 4 1/4".

The two labels (accent 2) were cut at 4 1/2" by 3 1/2" and 4 1/4" by 3 1/4".

Sentiment was welded in CCR (using the font feature) measuring 3 3/4" (wide) by 2 3/4".

Star was cut three times, 2", 1 1/2", and 1".  I stamped the small star with an image.

The Cuttlebug was used to emboss the accent under the sentiment, I used one of the folders from the Paper Lace 2 companion set.

Pop dots were used to add dimension.

Thanks for stopping by.

A little Cindy Loo

Today I have made a card using only the Cindy Loo cartridge.  I really enjoyed this one as I love owls and as they are meant to be very wise, and my daughter graduates from Grade 8 at the end of June, I thought this would be a lovely card for her.

The card base was made in the Cricut Craft Room(CCR) by welding two of the scallop squares (Doily1 - shadow).  It was cut at 10 1/2" by 5 1/4, to make a 5 1/4" square card.

Layer 1 and 2 (Doily1 - shadow) were cut at 4 3/4" and 4 1/4".

The owl was cut at 3 1/2".

The sentiment - CONGRATS - was cut at 1 1/4" (height).  I used some pop dots for the owl and the sentiment to give some depth.

A little Bloom

Hi everyone, continuing on with trying to use each of my cartridges and only using images off the one cart for the whole card.  Here is my next one.

I used the Bloom Lite cartridge for everything.

The card base was cut at 5 1/2" by 11" (to make a 5 1/2" by 5 1/2" card).
Layer 1 was cut at 5 1/4" square.
The layer 2 and 3 scallops (flower 10) were cut at 4 1/2" and 4".
I cut a circle (Layer flower 10) at 2 1/2" to go under the frame (frame 4) which was cut at 3 1/2".
The birdcage (3) was cut at 2 3/4".
A little bit of bling on the butterflies body.  I also added some pop dots to several of the layers to add dimension.

Thanks for stopping by.

A little Art Nouveau

I have some birthdays coming up over the next few months, so I thought I would get ahead and start getting some cards ready.

This one is completely cut from the Art Nouveau cartridge.

The card base was made in Cricut Craft Room (CCR) by welding two of the arched shapes (from the Lily and shift Layer 2, page 25) together.  It was cut at 6" (height) by 4 3/4".

The next two layers were just the single arched shape cut at 5 1/2" by 4 1/4" and 5" by 3 3/4".

The daffodil (page 23) was cut at 4" , but I did narrow it a little (in CCR) to 3 3/4" to fit my card better:-)

I added several pop dots to the flower and also inked the edges to add definition.

Thanks for stopping by.

Craft Room Tidy

So hubby, on the spur of the moment, decided to buy me a chair for my craft room.  I have been using a standard kitchen chair for around 5 years now but as I'm now getting into my crafting, he decided I needed a proper chair.  So from getting the chair, I thought I had better have a big sort out of my craftroom.

This picture is what it looked like in January of this year, just after I bought my Cricut.

My lovely, new, very comfortable chair:-)

My newly organised, and slowly growing, craft room.

Taekwondo Girl

Today, Emily (my 11 year old) is taking part in her first Taekwondo competition.  She is doing her green belt patterns, although she just recently earned her blue belt.  I decided to decorate a water bottle for her to take, but only remembered at 6am this morning, that I should have done it last night!  But it didn't take long and here it is.

I used the Car Decals cartridge and I cut the girl at 3.5 inches and the name I shrunk to fit 4 inches.

In Sympathy

I always find it extremely hard when it comes to giving someone a sympathy card.  What should it say and what should it look like?  This morning I made this card for a very good friend, who just lost her mother-in-law.  I think the calla lilies off the Art Nouveau cartridge were quite appropriate.   Simple and not too floral - if you know what I mean.  I also used a Cuttlebug embossing folder (from Paper Lace 2 companion set) to emboss the layer behind the flowers.

A Teachers Gift Take 2

Here we are another day and another afternoon of crafting.  More teachers gifts to make, and I think it will probably be more of these.  I really enjoyed making them and am so pleased at how they turned out. I have to give credit to Jessica from Created by Rosie  , she has an awesome tutorial on how to make these flowers.

I used the Flower Shoppe cartridge for the whole project.  I used double sided patterned card stock for the flowers and I also glued two leaves together (I don't have a very steady hand, I didn't want to see the messy glue underneath the flowers :-)   I used clear acrylic bead vase filler for the inside of the vase.

I used home made glimmer mist to spray the flowers.  Its much prettier in person, but you can just make it out in the photos.

This has been entered in the following challenge

A Teachers Gift

Hi everyone - so I'm having a crafty day today.  Catching up on things I have been meaning to do.  Shannon (daughter number 1) is out today with a friend, Emily (daughter number 2) is off out at 1pm.  Hubby is also off out this afternoon - so  guess what I'm going to do - that's right craft!! (Besides throwing some laundry on through the day too - timer at hand so I don't forget about the laundry LOL)

So this morning I finally managed to finish the teachers gift I started a couple of weeks ago - I found better leaves for the roses and am really pleased with the result.

The leaves, roses and the background scallop shape are cut from the Art Philosophy cartridge, the phrase is cut from the font on Winter Woodland.

I finally beat him at something!

Nothing crafty today but I just had to ring my own bell :-)

I finally beat my husband at something!!  I had a blog first!

He's not far behind though and I have shamed him into starting a blog, after I showed him how easy it was to start one. (He's a computer buff so of course its all to do with writing programs and code etc - way over my head!)

Hope you are all having a good weekend - its Victoria Day weekend here in Canada, so a nice long weekend. We are off to the Baseball this afternoon, to see the Ottawa Fat Cats play against the Kitchener Panthers.  Its supposed to be a beautiful day, reaching 32c (89.5f), so plenty of suncream, caps and lots of water.

Have a good one everyone.

And here we are - actually up to date:-)  It is Andy's (my hubby) birthday today - shhhhh he turns 48.  So of course I had to make him a card.  My aim is to make all my cards this year and of course since getting my Cricut I'm really enjoying this.  So heres a picture of his card, I cut the bonsai tree from the Pagoda cart, the sentiment is from the Paper Lace 2, and the scalloped edge layer was from CTMH Art Philosophy cart.

Last week I made this to display in my house.  I love the saying.  I used vinyl and the Quarter Note cartridge.  For the vinyl I had to cut it in the reverse as it is actually stuck to the inside of the glass and not the outside.  The inside paper is just an individual piece of scrapbook paper.

Four of my friends were turning 50 this year so all my lady friends got together and organized a joint party for them.  I decided to make a birthday banner for the party room (not here in this photo - my family room wall to see if it looked OK).  I used the Sophisticated cartridge. The stars were from George and Basic shapes cartridge.

I made these dragon themed items (lantern, name and napkin rings) for a friends son who was turning 24.  She was having an oriental theme for the dinner that she was doing.   I used the Pagoda cart for the dragon (just done at different sizes) and the numbers, the name was cut using the Quarter note cartridge.

A couple of Just Because cards:-)

This card I used the ribbon method with the card (credit to Pink Dalmatians and the video tutorial for the paper ribbon).

I used Don Juan cartridge for the wording.

For this card it was just some Recollections vintage papers. A flower I made myself using three layers of the daisy from the Bloom cartridge.  The wording was from Paper Lace 2.

I decided to decorate the wall above my craft desk (middle of March), I really like using the vinyl.  I used the Quarter Note cart for the words in vinyl.  For the corner pieces I used the Art Nouveau cart and did 3 layers of card stock  and pop dots to give a raised effect off the wall.  Now as to whether crafts are actually cheaper than therapy - it may well be in the long run:-)

So I couldn't leave my Baby Bug (Original Cricut) go unadorned.  Carpe Diem (Latin for Sieze the Day) and the butterflies were cut using the Art Nouveau cartridge.

This was a friends little girl turning three in March. She loves butterflies.

I used Car Decals for the butterflies, Sophisticated for the number and the insert to the card.  The card shape was designed in Cricut Craft Room by welding two shaped squares together.

A Mothers Day card made at the beginning of March (as Mothers Day UK is March, here in Canada its May).  Made this for Andy's Mum.  I used the Florals Embellished cart for the birds and the phrase. The flourish is from Paper Lace 2.

Its a tri-shutter card thanks to directions for the base card from Lorraine  please check out her blog she has awesome talent.  And the tutorial is excellent.

My Expression machine, newly decorated with Vinyl.  (18 Feb).  This was my first attempt at using vinyl and I was really pleased with the result.  I used the font on Winter Woodland and Paper Lace 2 for the hearts.

Monday, 14 May 2012

I really wanted a picture of a Cricut Bug so using Cricut Craft room Basics and George, I came up with this.

I also made two bugs one cool and one love (like the emoticons).

My Valentines card for Andy, my DH (Obviously back in Feb this year:-).  Again can you tell I'm new to all this.

I used George and Basic Shapes for the hearts and embossed them with my Cuttlebug.  The Key and wording were from Sophisticated.

OK so here goes.  I am going to put a few posts of the projects I have made using my new found creative machine - the CRICUT.  I just love what you can do with this machine.  My first project (not too wonderful) was for my daughter Emily's 11 Birthday, at the beginning of Feb 2012.  It has been a long time since I have made cards (like 8 years) but going through my craft cupboard and finding all the goodies was like Christmas:-)  So even though its not a fab card here it is.

As you can see really exciting isn't it LOL.  I used Paper Lace 2 and I also used my cuttlebug to emboss.  I promise that in future postings as I get more experienced I will post more details of what I used.

I wanted a way of storing and showcasing my crafty ideas.  Also somewhere to post the ramblings of daily life here in my household:-)

Lets see how it goes.
