Kung Hei Fat Choy 2014

Hi everyone!  How the dickens are you all?  I have something to share today - say YAY!!

It's also Chinese New Year today!  Happy New Year to any that maybe celebrating :-)

We can finally start sharing Nikky's new Polkadoodles release with you - Dollie Daydream - Goes East. This CD is absolutely stunning!  Loads of amazing papers, sentiments, embellies, digis; you name it this CD has it all.  If you weren't really into Oriental, this will surely blow you away !

** Dollie Daydream Goes East CD Collection

I'm going to show you the close up first - these digis are just so amazing.  I coloured this one with pencils and Gamsol.

Isn't she just fab.

The screen template is also on the CD and I use my Silhouette Cameo to cut out two layers of the screen. Then I printed the scene onto some good quality tracing paper and sandwiched it between the two layers of screen.  Makes a great decoration for today, don`t you think :-)

Because the screen is on tracing paper, I was able to put battery operated tea lights behind her, so she lights up :-)

The butterflies, flower and the scroll are all from the CD too!!  I cut out the scroll, inked the edges and then rolled the ends.  For the flower I layered it up a little to give it a little more depth.

Will be showing you a few more bits and bobs of the next week or so.  Here she is just once again :-)

I am entering this screen decoration in the following challenges.

A Random Fan - Challenge #1: It's Digi Time (closes 8 Feb)

Crafty Catz - Challenge #216: Anything Goes (closes 6 Feb)

Stampin' For the Weekend - Anything but a Card (closes 13 Feb)

Thanks for stopping by today and why not pop on over to the Polkadoodles blog, it's the start of a new challenge as it's Friday :-)

Happy Crafting.

Proud Mom and a Chat!

Hi everyone.  No not a cat (le chat), a chat or more of a ramble!  Just popping in today to say hi!     Helllooooooo!

Hope you are all having a good week so far.  So I have failed at my first goal of the year, to be posting every other day - I was on a roll and then life stepped in!

Had a great weekend with Andy being home - always sorry to see him leave though :-(

Anyhows, I have a few little snippets to share with you.  Nothing serious, just some minor health issues in that my B12 and Iron levels are quite low!  Well that would explain why I feel so tired all the time and need those afternoon Granny naps LOL!  So a bit of change in diet is in order and also some more bloomin' vits to take :-)  Also taking some stuff for my estrogen levels, to hopefully improve my anxiety issues and sleep and yadda yadda yadda - oh the joys of getting older!  And I sure do rattle these days.

Also, I had to go have my boobs squished - ouch! - on Monday.  Who knew our boobs could be squished so flat.  I have to go back for an ultrasound next week - don't think it's anything to worry about, I found out I was supposed to have a follow-up within a year of my last one.  Well that was in 2009! Paperwork seemed to have gone astray on that one!  Am I rambling too much?!  We're friends aren't we?  And that's what friends are for - to ramble at :-)

On a lighter note, last night we had an award ceremony to attend at the Ottawa Cancer Society. Shannon, was being presented with an appreciation award, along with several of her peers.  She is in her school Youth Troop and they organise fundraisers and awareness campaigns for the Cancer Society.  This past year they were instrumental in getting a Bill 30 passed in Ontario that bans all under 18 year olds from using tanning beds!  Here's Shannon!

And the award :-)

So proud of her.  She has a day off today, as she is finishing her Semester exams and her last one is tomorrow her French Oral exam.

I hope to have some things to share in the next few days.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy crafting.

It's Friday!

Hi everyone!  Andy comes home tonight for the weekend - YAY! So looking forward to seeing him, as are the girls :-)

Today is the start of another challenge at Polkadoodles - all the challenges are now Anything Goes, although the DT are challenged with Shop till you Drop this week - you can play along if you like.

I decided to do another shaped card, but before I get on with that I would like to share with you that Nikky has another 2 fabulous collections being released soon.  Both the Doolie Daydream - Girl Talk CD and the newest Dollie Daydream - Goes East (if you like Oriental, this collection is awesome and I can't wait to share it with you) are currently available for pre-order.

Here is my project for you today, I have enjoyed playing with my Silhouette Cameo and creating shaped cards lately so here you go.

I chose to use Dollie with her little puppy and coloured her with my pencils this time around, and placed her on some pop dots to add some depth.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to weld two outlines together to make the base of my card.  I also cut a smaller in outline shop in white and then stamped a sentiment on the inside.

So why not go along and enter this weeks challenge, remember the theme is optional, now always Anything Goes :-)

This card is being entered in the following challenges.

Crafting by Designs - Challenge : Get Your Girl On (closes 28 Jan)

Crafting for all Seasons - Challenge #69: For the Girls (closes 3 Feb)

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy crafting.

What is it? It's a ........

Hi everyone.  Yay - I made it into the craft room for the first time in 5 days!  Migraines finally went late Sunday afternoon.  I had to catch up on chores and stuff, so yesterday I treated myself to a day in the craft room.  I am sharing this project over at She's a Sassy Lady today too - thanks Sheila.

Here is how you last saw it!

I finally get to show you my finished project - say "Yay" :-)

But first I will show you a picture of what it was like before I started the whole process.

The clock cost me $2.50 and I had a 12" by 12" canvas in my stash.  You knew it was a clock - right! :-)

I shared the process of the preparing and painting of the canvas and clock last week, although at that time you didn't know what it was.

Here is the back of the clock - I bet you were wondering how I did the back.  Well, the clock came in a box and was secured to the liner by those two screw blocks - perfect for securing to the canvas,  I just cut a small square to be able to get to the battery compartment and time changer :-)

Oh - you want to see the clock!!

OK, here goes - are you ready :-)

The large flowers were made using a Heartfelt Creations Vintage Floret Die (this was a Christmas present from my husband, along with the coordinating stamp).  I added a little pearl dot the the centre.

The tiny little mulberry flowers were also made by hand.

The leaves are cut on my Silhouette Cameo with a cutfile from Birds Cards called Branches 1. I then used an embossing stencil to add some detail to all those leaves.

Then I came up with the idea that I could add the words "Time to Create" to my clock and would you know it there are 12 letters :-)  I used the Sweetheart Script for my letters and used the print and cut feature on my Cameo to cut out the circles.  They were then inked around the edges with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.

I have to admit that I am really pleased with how this turned out and it now has pride of place on my craft room wall.

Thank you so much for all your support and lots of virtual hugs over the weekend - I really needed them.

Hope you all have a most wonderful week.

I am entering this project in the following challenges.

Hi peeps - just a quick one.

I haven't done any more of my project the last couple of days - been having awful migraines.

They seem to be abating and will hopefully be able to get in the craft room today.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

Happy crafting.

More of something ......

Hi everyone.  How's your week going?  I am sharing the next couple of steps of my mystery item. Some of you have been guessing,  and sort of getting there - it is a frame of sorts, and that is all I'm giving you for now :-)

I got messy in the craft room and got out the acrylics paints.  But first, I did put a second layer of tissue on "it" and then once dry I gave the whole "thing" another coat of Gesso.

Using a wet sponge and acrylic paints, I started adding colour to my project.

The first colour was Cream and I sponged all over with this colour, to give good coverage, but very subtle change.

Next I added Yellow Ochre - dabbing the sponge all over the object - but not rubbing it at all.  I did pat it a little with some paper towel.

To finish off, I did a Crimson red and Deep Yellow mix, and then finished off with a little more Yellow Ochre.

That is the painting finished.  Now I have the fun of embellishing it and finishing it off.  So, I will be busy doing that over the next few days, as well as getting some DT stuff completed.

Still a ways to go yet, however I am hoping to have this finished by next Wednesday at the latest :-)  I hope you will continue this little journey of craftiness with me.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy crafting.

The start of something.......

Crafty!  Well of course crafty - what else would it be LOL!

I hope you are all having a great start to the week.  I decided to get something done, but it's going to take a little while - well not too long hopefully.

I am not even going to tell you what it is - nah nah, nah nah, naaaahhh!!

I is so wicked ain't I :-)

Anyway, I will show you the first two steps I have completed.

Firstly, I gave (not telling you!) it a coat of Gesso.

Next, I used Modge Podge Matte and covered the (still not telling you!) item with white tissue.

Still a bit wet there, but you can see all the nice wrinkles.  I think I will do a second coat of tissue.

So, I am keeping up with one of my goals, that of posting on my blog every other day!  Are you bored yet LOL!

I wonder if you can guess what "IT" is ?

I took the girls to see "Saving Mr Banks" on the weekend.  Oh my - what a fabulous film and I am not ashamed to say I cried at several points in the film, especially the end :-)  Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson were the perfect actors to play these parts - highly recommend it!

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy crafting.

No cutting machine - no problems :-)

Hi everyone.  I am sharing this tutorial over at Polkadoodles today, as I wanted to show that Nikky's digis and CD's are so versatile, that you don't need a fancy cutting machine to make a shaped card.

You find a digi image that you feel will work.  Straight edges or connected in some way.  I am using one of the pre-coloured shoe embellishments off the new Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD, just good old Microsoft Word and a steady hand.

I first placed the image of the shoe into a Word document and then sized it to the finished size that I would like my card to be.  In this instance, I sized the shoe to be 5.5" wide.  Then copying and pasting and positioning on the paper (narrowest margins used and landscape view).

Now comes the good part :-)  Print out onto card stock and cut out around each of the shoes.  One of the shoes you only need to cut out the bow.

You are going to use one of the shoes to create your template.  I am going to use a piece of cardstock for the base of my card.  I used a 8.5" by 11" piece of card stock, and folded it in half so it is 8.5" by 5.5".

Place the shoe on top of the folded card base and you must leave a little of the left of the shoe over to the left of the fold.  Then carefully trace the outline of the shoe onto your folded card and cut out.

This is now the base of your card.

Your first layer of your shoe can be stuck to this.  I then cut just the bow off the second shoe and placed this using pop dots to add depth.

For the inside I just cut the left edge of the shoe so that the shoe will fit on the inside.  To get a small shoe to be able to write your greeting on, I just flipped the shoe in word, printed it out, but then just flipped it back over and used the white side of the shoe - you can size this accordingly in word - mine is 2.5" wide.

Then you can add any embellishments you would like to the front.  I added a layered flower, also available on the CD and cut by hand and a topper.

And there you have it, a lovely shaped card made the old fashioned way :-)

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy crafting.

WOW - It's Friday!

First week of the New Year and first week of the girls back at school - gone!  Hope things are warming up a little for some of you - we still have another 3 months of winter to get through here - hey ho!

Anyways, it's Friday so that means it's the start of another challenge over at Polkadoodles.  Here we go again - Week 2 and every week is now Anything Goes, although the design team gets a theme and you can play along if you want. This week we were asked to create something girly.

Now Nicky was busy creating over Christmas - this woman never stops - and she has just released this fabulous new CD collection called Dollie Daydream Girl Talk.  Loads of papers, sentiments digis, both coloured and black and white.  So many things on this CD.

** Dollie Daydream Girl Talk CD Collection

I decided to use one of the digital stamp shoes from the CD and using my Silhouette Cameo, created a shaped card!

Everything for the shoe is off this new collection.  The papers, topper and rolled flower!  Oh except the real ribbon bow, of course - I'm not that good that I can print my own real fabric ribbon LOL!

I cut out the ribbon of the shoe to layer and add depth, and then added the rolled flower to the centre of the bow.

For the inside, I cut a slightly smaller shoe, in the same papers but a darker shade (now looking at the photos I probably should have done it the other way around, darker on the outside) and then also just cut in white for somewhere to add a place to address the card.  The sentiment on the inside is also from the CD.

I think I should have perhaps made the base of my card in a similar colour - note to self to remember for the next time :-)

Nikky currently has a sale on of 15% off  - so if you want this collection and want to save some, hurry on over and take a look.  Worldwide shipping is just 99p (approx $1.65) or free if you spend over £20 (approx $33).

And don't forget to go along and enter the challenge, don't forget - always Anything Goes.  You have until Sunday 19 Jan (12pm GMT) to enter.

This card is being entered in the following challenges.

Cool Penguins!

Hi everyone.  How is your new year going so far?  Kids are back in school - yay ;-)

You may recall before Christmas that I made a yummy easel card with 4 drawers underneath.  I had linked it back to Kris, at The Crafting Secretary, who did the tutorial.  Well, Kris left a lovely comment on my blog and then asked me if I would like to use one of her new release digis!  They are released today and available in store at Imagine That! Digis by Kris.

I had a choice of the new releases and just loved these fabulous penguins.  She is also going to use my card in her store newsletter :-) And on the blog on the 10th :-)

I decided to make a z fold card and also just had to 3D these lovely fab penguins.  I used the pre-coloured image and then cut out the pieces to layer.

Aren't they adorable!  The card base is Kraft and then the papers are from a DCWV 12" by 12" stack called Cup of Cheer.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to make the file for the backing papers to sit around the image.  As well as the cut out in the z fold.  I cut the main image using the Cameo and the print and cut feature, the other layers were cut by hand as I have no idea how to just cut a small part of an image, without fiddling so much and having loads to erase - any advice would be appreciated :-)

For the inside, I use a Spellbinders Labels 8 and then added a little stamped penguin from a Stamps of Life set called More Penguins 2 Love.

Here's a close up of the penguins, to show the depth.

Thank you so much Kris, for letting me play with this wonderful new release.  You just have to go over and check out all the other new releases and digi sets that Kris has - they are fabulous.  Imagine That...Digis by Kris.  She also runs a challenge blog, if you would like to check it out too - Imagine That...Digis by Kris Progressive Challenge and Inspiration Blog.

This card is being entered in the following challenges.

Stay Warm! and Thank You.

Hi everyone.  Hope everyone is staying warm, with these ridiculous cold temperatures.  Some of those temperatures that my American friends are dealing with, would even get to the most hardiest of Canadians!

I wanted to pop in today, just to say thank you all for my lovely birthday wishes :-)  Made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside reading all your wonderful comments.

I had a lovely, yet quiet day on Sunday for my Birthday.  Andy had given me my present before he went back to Winnipeg.  I collect Swarovski Crystal and haven't had a new piece in quite a while.

So, I thought I would share with you what he got me.  Firstly though he got me this lovely cuddly owl, as one of my silly presents at Christmas :-)  He is such a big softy and it is connected, well sort of !

Everybody say "Awwwwwwe!"

And here is the lovely piece he got me for my birthday.

Isn't it just sweet.

The girls bought me a lovely 12 by 12 paper stack, out of their allowance - my girls know me :-)

A good friend took me out, yesterday, for a celebratory lunch.  We had a Chinese buffet and it was delicious!

I will be back tomorrow to share something crafty with you.  Just keeping up with my goal to post something at least every other day.  You don't have to read this drivel LOL!

Anyways, thanks for stopping by today.

See ya tomorrow.

Happy crafting.
