There was Grass! And a Box :-)

Hi everyone.  Well Mother Nature was playing around with us the other day.  You know I could have sworn I saw grass, maybe that photo I took just is lying LOL!

Well, woke up yesterday morning to another covering of snow!  Yep the white stuff.  And here is a photo to prove it!!  I had to take this out of my bedroom window as I was still in my pyjamas - you know how it goes.

Anyways, you might want to get a nice cup of coffee or tea and settle down, this post has a few photos as I wanted to show you the process of me making "The Box" :-)  But first a reminder of what the box is for, these are the 16 cards, and I have also made 16 envelopes.

This was my inspiration for my box, this holds all my card makes and serves as a stand for one of my lamps for the photo box :-)

Now, I knew when I was thinking about this box, that it was going to need to be sturdy, so delving around the craft room I found two fab pieces of thin corrugated cardboard, obviously kept for that "I might need this" moment.  Don't deny it either - you all do it :-)

This is the thickness, of the card board, see nice and narrow and perfect for what I needed.

So, I decided to cut my box base 5.75" square and 5" deep.  Therefore my piece needed to be 15.75" square to start.  I measured  and cut up my piece and then using a scoring tool, went down my drawn lines with it, just enough to break the skin of the cardboard.  Then for the tabs, I just cut a small diagonal pieces off so that it would sit nicely when glued.

Then I decided that when this was made up, I didn't want two layers of tabs on the inside, so I cut some more off, so that they would meet in the middle-ish on the inside.

I used Scotch Quick Dry glue, and then also used some paper grips, although I probable didn't need them.

Next came the lid.  This was 6" square by 3" deep.  So my piece of cardboard needed to be 12" square. Same process.  Measure, score and cut.

Glue and grips.

Yay, now came the best part.  Decorating it.  I used the same papers that I had used on my cards. Dotty paper is from Fancy Pants Designs called Little Sprout (though it could be called Sugar - not sure which!)

Now silly me, I didn't take a picture of the next step which was doing all the edging strips.  But take my word for it, I was glad when I had finished.  I cut 24 strips of varying lengths from red textured cardstock (this has been in my stash for at least 10 years!), all 1.25" wide, then used a white gel pen and made faux stitching on all the strips and then scored them down the middle.  These were then applied to all edges of the box base and lid.

Then I cut 16 pieces that were 1.75" square, scored these crossways and was able to form the corners for the box.

For the handle on the box, I just doubled over some of the card stock, glueing the seam to the centre back so that no paper edges were visible.  Then attached this to the lid using some large brads.

I have to admit, I like how the textured card stock looks like red leather.

And inside the box, all those fabulous cards.  I tied the envelopes together with some fab blue ribbon.

And there you have it.  One completed box, that happily holds all sixteen cards and envelopes.  Just to show it off again :-)

Phew, did you stay with me till the end - or did you drop off?  Hope you enjoyed the post, snow and everything :-)

I am entering this box in the following challenges.

Could it be grass? And a Messy place!

Hi everyone.  I hope you are having a great start to the weekend.

Thought I would share this little photo with you.  Do you see that sort of stringy looking stuff?  I can hardly remember what it is called!  Do you think it could be GRASS!!!!!!  It rained a lot yesterday, yes I said rained and look a little bit of the green stuff (well sort of green) along the edge of the path!

So Spring could be on it's way but lets not get too far ahead of ourselves, eh!

Now I hang my head in shame as I show you the Messy place, aka my Craft room :-)

The corner desk - not too bad.

Paper corner, naah not too bad.

Mwaaaha ha ha ha - craft table - messy messy messy :-)

Even Jess, the cat, said "I'm not sitting here, humph, no way!"

And look what 50 minutes of time can do, whilst the girls were at Youth Group last night.  Corner desk, reasonably tidy and see there, getting ready to make 16 envelopes and then the box :-)

The paper corner - a little bit tidier but now I need to get some die storage as it seems to have grown a little!

And the craft table - well - all clean and ready for creating :-)

So, I had a couple of requests.  You remember the little soldier card I made and that I mentioned I used to be in the Royal Air Force (UK), well I thought I would share a photo of me in my number 1's (uniform for parades etc).  Check out those shiny shoes - a lot of hard work went into those :-)  The hat style did change towards the end of my career, I still have that hat though, it's the only thing I was able to keep, along with my dog tags :-)

And just one more in a more relaxed mode :-) I apologise for the quality of these two photos, they were taken when digital wasn't around LOL, so these are off the real photos and scanned :-)

Them were the days and yes I was blond! :-)

I want to say thanks to all of you who visit and stop by.  It means so much to me that you take the time to come visit.

Happy crafting.

Spring - Oh how I Wish it was!

Hello my crafty buddies, how are you all this fine day?  Well, it might be Spring somewhere in the world, but here Winter is hanging on in there.

However, it's Friday and that means it's Polkadoodles Team A's turn to post an inspirational week for our Challenge Spring is in the Air.  You have to go over and see the fabulous inspiration by the DT and why not drop them a little love whilst you at it.

I decided to use several Polkadoodles CD's for my bit of inspiration and this at least made me think Spring might turn up sometime soon!   The bird house template is from the Candy Doodles CD, and the papers and the love birds came from the Love and Cherish CD.  I cut the birds out with my Silhouette Cameo.

What a fabulous sign of Spring.  To see the birds returning and making their new homes, or people moving house now that the Spring is here.  If you look close you can even see two youngsters inside the house :-)

I even gave these love birds a picket fence, after all, what's a house without a little white picket fence :-)

The picket fence and the butterflies are from the Sundae of Seasons CD.  All cut using my Cameo.  I layered up some of the flowers and leaves and the butterflies have bee doubled up to add some depth to them.

All the edges of all the layers have been inked with CTMH Cotton Candy, including the butterflies, birds and flowers.

And just one more photo to show everything from a different angle.

Here are the CD Collections I used.  Candy Doodles for the Bird House Template.

My Hero!

Hi everyone.  Happy Hump Day!  Hope you are having a fabulous week.

I thought I would share a new character from the newly released Work and Play 2 Collection at Polkadoodles.  This was released yesterday and I have had this made for over a week.

This CD is another great collection and covers a multitude of occupations and hobbies.  It comes with some fabulous sentiments and papers too!

Here is the card I came up with.  I was going with a simple card and thought that the soldier would look great standing in front of a tent like card.

I have paper pieced his clothes with the camouflage papers and then coloured him with pencils.  Did you know that I used to be in the Royal Air Force (UK) (I served just over 9 years, Andy did 18 years) and wore this get-up!?  And I have actually fired a Sub Machine gun and this type of rifle :-)

For the tent I just printed the camouflage paper on some beige card stock.  Cut a line up the centre front layer, and folded them back to look like the flaps of the tent, adding some brads to secure them.  The base of the card has just been shaded with a dark pencil.

A close up of the little soldier, shows Nikky's meticulous attention to detail, when she is drawing her digis.

For the inside, I just used the camouflage paper again, and added a little white to write on.

This is the CD I used - Work and Play Collection 2.

The Finale!

Hi every one.  Wow, its Saturday!  Hope you all had a fabulous week.

The girls and I are off out to the cinema this morning.  Shannon and a friend are going to see Divergent, and Emily and I are going to watch Mr Peabody and Sherman :-)

I finally have the last three cards, in the set of sixteen that I have made.  The first four posts for the series, can be found here, here, here, and here :-)

I was lucky enough to win a gift voucher to Top Dog Dies, off of Yvonne at Do More With Less - thank you so much Yvonne.

These butterflies were one of the sets that I was able to purchase, it is a Cheery Lynn Designs, Small Exotic Butterflies #2 w/Angel Wings set.

Just have to share a close up of each of the butterflies.

The papers for the butterflies are from a My Minds Eye 6" by 6" stack called Collectable "Memorable".

The other papers are from a Recollections 12" by 12" stack called Cherry Blossoms.  Will you look at this butterfly, even looks as if he has eyes, just luck with the paper :-)

All the edges of all the layers, including the butterflies, have been inked up with CTMH Sorbet ink.

Don't you just love the detail of these butterflies!  They cut out perfectly with my Cuttlebug, all the little tiny pieces just fell out.

For the insides of the cards, I just used papers as the front and then stamped some little tiny butterflies to finish them off.

There you have it, that is the last in this set of cards.  Now I have to come up with a box for 16 cards and envelopes.  Have a couple of ideas in my head, so hope to share that with you soon.

Thanks for all the fabulous comments you all leave me - I really do appreciate your visits so much.

I am entering these cards in the following challenges.

Emergency! :-)

Hi everyone.  How is your week going so far?  Gosh, is tomorrow already Friday?  I think I blinked and the week disappeared.

Yesterday, I made sometime to just play around in the craft room.  Nikky, at Polkadoodles has a new release called Work and Play Collection 1.  Shhh don't tell anyone I told you, but there is also part 2 due to be released shortly :-)

** Work & Play Collection 1

These images are so fun, you get the black and white, and the coloured digis, and there are fabulous sentiments and papers to go along with them.

I decided to use the Fire-lady :-)  For my card.  She has been coloured with Prisma pencils, her face looks a little dirty, but hey she's coming to the rescue.

I cut her out using my Silhouette Cameo.  She is layered with a frame to make her stand out from the background.  (I have to admit these papers are from the next collection that is coming out.  Sorry, I had made the card before realising it was on the new stuff!)

I inked all the edges of all the layers with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.  Nothing fancy to the card, but I do like how it turned out.

For the inside, I just used some of the paper from the front, and also inked the edges.

Hope you have a fabulous Thursday.

This card is being entered in the following challenges.
