Simply Saturday #3 - Steampunk Owl

Helllooo - It's Saturday!  We are heading to New Jersey this weekend to do some clothes craft shopping for the girls me ;-)

Earlier in the week - Thursday - I spent some time in the craft room.  I actually did some things that I haven't done in a while.

I have had this Steampunk Owl stamp (by Stampendous) for absolutely ages (like probably around 5 years!) and would occasionally look at it.  Then the other day I was inspired by this post by Julia of Paradise Lost.

I am going to see if I can get some of those new birds by Tim Holtz whilst I'm away.

In the meantime, here is what I came up with.  Can you see the key he is holding in his claws? :-)

I actually did some heat embossing!  Yay me LOL!

I stamped the owl 4 times and then heat embossed, all four, after applying Moon Glow Two-tone Embossing Powder in Midnight Gold Obsidian.  (Now this embossing powder is over 10 years old, but it took beautifully).

The owl is stamped on Recollections card stock in cream, all four times and then I coloured the owl with my limited supply (58 LOL!) of Copic markers.  Because of the heat embossing no bleeding of the ink :-)  The first layer is cut out using a Spellbinders Labels 8 die.

Of course I couldn't resist doing a little bit of decoupage on this owl.  He is gorgeous!

I distressed the edges and then inked up with Tim Holtz Tea Dye Distress Ink.

The metal embellishments are all from Michaels, their Studio G range.

For the inside I added some of the same papers as the front, but also added this ticket as my message panel.

I forgot to tell you, all the designer papers are from the fabulous DCWV stack called The Timeless Type.

So, what do you think of my venture out of my comfort zone - does it look OK?

Do you think he looks better, with or without the key in his claws.  Let me know :-)

So, that's it for today.  Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.

I am entering this card in the following challenges.

Love Nest Twit-Twoo

Hello everyone.  Where has this month gone?  The girls go back to school in just over  a week!  Did you all have a fabulous summer?

We have been busy getting together all the school supplies ready for the start of school.  New folders and everything else that's needed to get them through the school year.

Shannon is going into Grade 12, so she is a Senior now - phew!  And Emily is going into Grade 9 so just starting High School.  At least they get to spend 1 year together again, in the same school :-) (Not sure if they think that is a good or bad thing LOL!)

Anyways, on to today's post.

It's Friday, and the start of a new challenge over at Polkadoodles and this fortnights theme is "Things with Wings".  You have until Friday, Sept 11th to enter this challenge.

I have used the wonderful and cute Twiggy and Toots collection for my Z-Fold card to day.

Once again, using a pre-coloured image.  I love Nikky's attention to detail and her colouring is always amazing.  These digi's print out so beautiful no matter what size you make them!  I didn't do any layering to the image itself, so this will be another great card to post :-)

I inked all the edges of all the layers.  Every element for this card is in this wonderful collection.  All the papers, images and fabulous sentiment.  I think this would make a perfect card for a new couple moving into a new home together!

For the inside section, I made a message panel using the same papers and added a trio of little flowers to add to some interest.

I just love Twiggy and Toots, don't they make an adorable couple :-)

So, there you have it, my little bit of inspiration for you.  Now it's your turn to get crafty and enter our Things with Wings Challenge.  Will you use a fairy, dragon, birds? You name it, if it has wings you can enter :-)

I am entering this card in the following challenges.

Creative Knockouts - Challenge #104: Anything Goes (closes 2 Sept)

Crafting by Designs - Challenge Things with Wings (closes 1 Sept)

Simply Papercraft - Challenge #12: Anything Goes (closes 10 Sept)

What's new Wednesday - a Big Kick in the ...

Craft room :-)  LOL!

I hope you are all having a great week.

We are off to New Jersey for a few days this weekend, so friends will be cat sitting for us :-)  I am hoping to get a chance to go to some of the craft shops, as even with the terrible exchange rate I'm sure to get a bargain - that's what I'm telling hubster anyways LOL!

So, I actually do have something new - I treated myself to a Big Kick/Big Shot die cutting machine. Even managed to sell my old Cuttlebug - so more crafty monies available!  I really have to start using my dies more and today I did :-)

I decided to use a lovely paper stack by My Minds Eye, called The Sweetest Thing - Tangerine. I also got out my Heartfelt Creations Delicate Aster dies, and the Spellbinders Classic Large Scalloped Circle dies to make up a card.

I really enjoyed making these flowers and should do it more often :-)

I cut three different size circles and layered them up.  Popping the last one, with the sentiment, up on some foam to add a little depth.

For the inside, as always, using the same papers as the front and there's plenty of room to leave a hand written message.

I inked all the edges of all the layers, the edges of the petals and leaves, with CTMH Sorbet.

Here's a close up of those flowers :-)

Yesterday's venture into the craft room ended up in the bin.  Do you get days like that?

Not long now till the girls go back to school - just under 2 weeks.  Off to Staples to get all their bit's and pieces that they will need for the new school year.

Thanks for stopping by today.

Happy crafting.

Three Step Card and a Tutorial

Hello everyone - how are you all?  Did you have a good weekend?

I am here today to show you another of my creations from the Polkadoodles Frosted Winter - Octavia collection.

Once again, I have tried something new to me.  This is called a Three Step Card and I found the fabulous tutorial here at Tara's Craft Studio.  Thank you Tara.

However :-)  You all know me by now - I have made a tutorial as I have used my trusty card stock of 8.5" by 11" card stock and Tara uses 12".

So firstly here is my card :-)  This is just the front and I have used a pre-coloured image and it has been layered :-)

I just love this new collection.  The papers are gorgeous, digitals are amazing and I love all the different embellishments.  Here is a look at the card open and I will then get on with the tutorial :-)

So I will show you some more photo's later :-)  Grab a coffee and sit awhile :-)

First up you will need a piece of card stock that measures 6" by 11"

Now here comes the fun part.  You will need to score at the 2" mark and down 2", at 4" and down 4".

Next score at the 6" point from 2" down, and the 8" point from 4" down.  I hope this makes sense, but if you click on the picture it will make it larger and you will see what I mean.

Finally score at the 10" and 10 1/8", top to bottom :-)

Now you will need to cut slits (the red lines in the photo above) from the bottom of the 2" score line to the top of the 6" score line.  Then from the bottom of the 4" score line to the top of the 8" score line.  Each of those score lines are then folded as below. So top. middle and bottom two score lines are all mountain then valley folds.  Finally the end long score lines are both valley folds.

Your's should now look like this from the top view :-)

Next up you will need a piece of card stock that measures 6" by 4 3/4"  this will become the front panel of your card.  You actually attach the right hand side of this piece of card stock to the flap as indicated below.

This is your card complete and ready for decoration.

The finished card closed will measure 6" by  6".

And this is what it looks like open :-) I hope the tutorial made sense - let me know if it's OK!

So now to show off you my card with a few more photo's :-)

I have distressed and inked all the edges and added a little glitter to those fabulous trees and tag.

I have layered up the wonderful pre-coloured image. This came from one of the design sheets off the collection.

I used two different backing papers, that complimented the design.  I love the rich purple - its gorgeous!

For the inside I used one of the frames, filled it with a backing paper and then added a wonderful sentiment (from the collection).  I have left a panel to leave a message too, with a cream poinsettia.

The little side panels have some little button ephemera, that have Peace, Joy, Noel on them.

I loved adding glitter to this one and added tiny bits here and there on the lovely snowflakes in the paper.

I am entering this card in the following challenges

Hang about - still Christmas !

Hi there my friends.  Did you all have a fabulous week?

It's been extremely hot here and so the basement has been a great place to be. What's in the basement? My craft room of course :-)

I have been having a wonderful time there, crafting away, staying cool and playing with the newest release at Polkadoodles.

Octavia Frosted Winter Collection - overview

I have a wonderful Christmas banner to share with you today.  My only problem with this one was getting a great photo - so I have broken it down a little in photo's for your to see. (If you click on any photo's whilst visiting me - they should enlarge a little)

I used the fabulous alphabet and layered up on some cardstock.  I love the colour palette in this latest collection - it's gorgeous.

I used the wonderful gingerbread people in a jar, for the centre, layered up the image and added lots of glitter.

I also used the gingerbread couple to add to each end of the banner.

I added glitter to the little snowflakes on the letters and to the stripes of the gingerbread people.

Then I used little teeny pegs and some sparkly white wool to finish off and hang my banner.

I wish you could see this in person - it looks so much better LOL!

Anyways, that's it for today.  My fellow teamies are also sharing some more of their makes over on Facebook - here there and everywhere.  So why not pop along and check out their creations too.

The group links are below.

Then a couple of other fabulous Facebook groups, which are

No tutorial today, but I will have another creation and tutorial for you on Monday - so stay tuned :-)

Christmas once again!

Hello everyone.

I hope you are enjoying the launch party this week of the new and fabulous collection from Polkadoodles!

Frosted Winter was an immediate hit with the Design Team - it really is a stunning collection.  You can see my posts HERE and HERE if you want to take a peak.

Today, however, is the second week of our "Use Something New to You" challenge over at Polkadoodles, lots of fabulous inspiration from the team for you to drool at :-)

My card was made by using up some left over printing from my sample makes in July.  I love that I already had all of the elements needed to make this card.

I have used the wonderful Studio 12 Picknix 3 - Nordic Winter Collection.

I love this robin and have used the pre-coloured image, and cut it out using my Silhouette Cameo.  I popped up the robin and top sentiment on this one - I think it will also be safe to post as it's not too thick.

For the inside I used the same papers as the front.  Inking all the edges of all the layers to help them pop.

I distressed the edges of the front, bottom layer and the red starry layer.  Curling over the two corners to add a little interest.

I think I need to redo my photo box, I think it's a little too big and therefore I'm getting lots of shadowing which I didn't get with my smaller one.  Something else to add to the to do list :-)

Your turn to make something and once again, the theme is Use Something New to You.  You have until Friday, 28 Aug to enter and it of course doesn't have to be Christmas!

I am entering this card in the following challenges

Crafting By Designs - Get Ready for Christams August Edition (entry #2)(closes 25 Aug)

Inky Impressions Challenges - Challenge #272: Christmas in August (entry #2)(closes 25 Aug)

Anyways, hope you are all well.

Thanks for stopping  by today.
